While autumn and winter aren’t traditionally a time for camping, Phillip Island is expecting a post-Easter influx of travellers looking to take advantage of milder weather and seasonal delights.
Around 90 minutes from Melbourne, Phillip Island is home to picturesque beaches, natural scenery and nature parks and reserves that have long been popular with holiday-makers. A variety of accommodation is available, from camp sites to cabins to glamping tents.
“Year ‘round we see keen campers flocking to the island’s camp sites and parks, including during the cooler months through Autumn and Winter, with travellers eager to enjoy the milder weather and to immerse themselves in the beautiful wildlife and scenery on offer. We are expecting 2022 to be no different, with Australians keen to explore more of their own backyard post-lockdown,” said Destination Phillip Island General Manager Kim Storey.
A recent Destination Phillip Island study found 94 per cent of Australians surveyed want to explore more of Australia, while 86 per cent want to learn more about local culture and destinations.
On offer for families looking to make the trip is the daily penguin parade (providing the penguins show up), a visit to Seal Rocks which are home to Australia’s largest population of fur seals, and the Phillip Island Chocolate Factory, as well as Phillip Island Go Carts, Clip N Climb, and A Maze N Things.
Visitors are encouraged to get in early to secure bookings, with some places booked weeks and months in advance.
